The département of Lot (46) is in the region of Languedoc-Roussillon-Midi-Pyrénées and is bordered by the departments of Corrèze, Cantal, Aveyron, Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot-et-Garonne and Dordogne.
Lot is one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on 4 March 1790.
The coat of arms are a combination of the Pont de Valentre (Valentre bridge) in Cahors,
the capital of the département and the water of the Lot river.
