The département of Somme (80) is in the Hauts-de-France region and is bordered by the départements of Pas de Calais, Aisne, Oise, Seine Maritime and by 30 miles of the Channel where the Somme River estuary and the Bay of Somme account for most of the coastal area.
The coat of arms are a combination of the arms of Picardy, with a change of colour and the addition of a wavy divide symbolising the River Somme (after which it is named) that flows through the département.
